The Northwest Emergency Center, located at the Marana Center on Twin Peaks and Interstate 10, opened last month with Marana’s Vice Mayor Jon Post attending the ribbon-cutting.
The facility, which cost about $8.5 million, is Northwest Healthcare’s second Free Standing Emergency Department (FSED) in Southern Arizona.
The FSED model is basically an independent emergency department. The Marana FSED has an ambulance bay, triage, radiology, and lab. There is always a board-certified emergency physician available as well as registered nurses and other staff. The center offers greater specialization than urgent care facilities and if even greater care is needed, they will transfer a patient to another facility.
The facility is projected to create over 30 medical jobs.
Northwest Healthcare’s other facilities include another FSED in Vail, Northwest Medical Center, Oro Valley Hospital, five urgent care centers, and primary care clinics. The company is planning to open a hospital on the 62 acres it owns in Marana.
