(Sponsored Content --) Many gig workers are enticed to the occupation because of the flexibility that it offers in accommodating one’s personal life.

The Hamilton Project reported that as the economy continues its recovery, gig workers will help the economy grow because the jobs are flexible, have little onboarding costs and allow workers to add to their income, along with customers enjoying the services and low costs offered by the jobs that gig workers do.

"I am retired," said Paul Tomicich, an Uber driver. "So, Uber allows me to work when I feel like it. The only good thing about retirement is that you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. Flexible hours and driving for Uber gets me out of the house and helps me make money so I can visit my grandkids in St. Louis."

"Independent gig workers (such as online platform workers and independent contractors) experience high levels of work-life balance, flexibility, autonomy, meaningful feedback and creative freedom," a 2018 Gallup poll found. "In fact, they score much higher on all these factors compared with traditional workers and other types of gig workers."

An Edison Research study conducted in December 2018, "The Gig Economy," surveyed 1,044 gig workers and concluded that 44% of them utilize these jobs as a main source of income, with 53% of workers ages 18-34 utilizing gig work as their primary source of income.

Participants in the study ages 18-34 accounted for 38% of those surveyed, 25% were 35-55 and 11% were 55 or older. The study also stated that of the 1,044 participants, 31% were Hispanic, 27% were African-American and 21% were white or other.

Forbes reported that Airtasker employed a YouGov survey that found 70% Gen-Z workers support the "flexible economy" that accommodates their hours, work and fee, as well as the ability to make career choices.

The report further stated that 33% of participants were impacted by making more money, 52% were motivated by flexibility, with 36% enjoying working from any place they want.
